What does Steube do? He hides from the Epstein files issue

By Cynthia Wolfe

Representative Greg Steube refuses to hold a public town hall for his constituents in Florida’s 17th Congressional District, but he's always on the hunt for headline-grabbing gestures he can make from the security of his desk.

His latest? Proposing to rename the Department of Defense as the “Department of War.” It’s the kind of empty stunt that is his specialty: something that generates a little cable news chatter but does nothing to serve the his constituents—or the American people at large.

Meanwhile, a real opportunity for leadership is staring him in the face. Four of his fellow Republicans have found the courage to sign a discharge petition that would compel the White House to release the full Epstein files. Those records could shed long-overdue light on one of the most disturbing scandals in recent history—who enabled Jeffrey Epstein, who turned a blind eye, and who may still be shielded from accountability.

If Rep. Steube wants to prove he is serious about transparency, accountability, and protecting the vulnerable, then this is his chance. The American people don’t need symbolic word games about department names. They need representatives who will fight for truth, no matter how uncomfortable that truth may be for the powerful. Polls show that the overwhelming majority of Americans—upwards of 79 percent—want all Epstein documents released.

Joining this petition would show real political courage. It would demonstrate that Rep. Steube stands with citizens demanding justice, not with insiders protecting the elite. He could prove he’s more than a showman—that he’s willing to do the hard, necessary work of oversight.

Florida voters deserve more than theatrics. They deserve a representative who will choose substance over stunts. Signing the petition to release the Epstein files is the right choice. The question is: will Steube do the right thing, or will he keep hiding from the issues that truly matter?
